Wing it Victoria Secret style

When I hear “Victoria Secret fashion show” it conjures up images of plumes extrodinaire, sexy, crystal encrusted lingerie and Amazonian women. Every year, Victoria Secret orchestrates a fashion show filled with high-drama, exaggerated wings and super-hot models. One of the most anticipated and hottest fashion shows of the year, I don’t think it disappoints!
I was always curious about the conceptualization of the wings and the genius behind the design and actual construction of these massive accessories.

Juliette Meurisse is one of the geniuses behind these now-famous wings which are synonymous with the VS fashion shows. Meurisse is a French crafts person who formerly worked with Sonia Rykiel and for the 2010 show she designed four sets of wings for the five themes of the show, which were: ‘Tough Love’, ‘Wild Things’, ‘Heavenly Bodies’, ‘Game On’, ‘Pink’ and ‘Country Girls’. From the sewing of the crystals to the dyeing of the feathers…the embellishment on the wings are all done by hand. The little miniature mannequins that they do the mock wings on are so adorable!!

So the show took place in November 2010 and to celebrate it VS had an exhibit of a collection of wings from the 2006-2009 shows which were displayed outside some of the Victoria’s Secret stores in NYC for passersby to take pictures with them or just plain gawk at them!!
