Kinder Aggugini and his Tryst with Macy's
Would you draw inspiration for a line of clothes from Coco Chanel’s fictitious marriage to Sid Vicious? Or use Juliette Reamier, the woman who stood up to Napoleon as an inspiration for an Autumn/Winter line? Well, designer Kinder Aggugini does! He is Macy’s newest designer collaboration for 2011 to be followed by H&M alumni Matthew Williamson and Karl Lagerfield .
The line up is awesome and even better are the clothes Kinder Aggugini has lined up for his Impulse Spring 2011, Macy's debut….delicate, romantic dresses and tough looking jackets…what’s not to love!! The line is to debut in stores on February 15th.
Italian born Kinder Aggugini (some name!!) has an incredible track record.
A graduate of St. Martins School of Art, he went on to work in London’s Savile Row and then with the likes of Vivienne Westwood, Paul Smith, Calvin Klien and John Galliano, where he apparently applied for the job dressed as a policeman!
He was also head designer for Versace following Gianni Versace's death.
His penchant for drawing inspiration from unusual characters is visible in his Spring 2011 RTW line where he came across a book on the nineteenth-century Scottish explorer Mungo Park, who apparently became so obsessed with Africa, that he disappeared there.
The inspired line that followed has a very romantic appeal which is apparent in his use of soft, flowing fabrics and the African theme in the colors, graphics and accessories.I love how he kept the accessories simple and uncomplicated …with a dark, tan, almost bordering on black, looped boyfriend belt and the black strappy gladiatorish footwear with a tribal finish.
His use of colorful top hats, created by Stephen Jones, the famous African neckpiece and multiple hoop earrings in black make you instantly think Kenyan Safari!
Matthew Williamson gave us a truly lustworthy line when he collaborated with H&M back in 2009…I wonder if he can outdo himself for Macy’s and with Karl Lagerfield, who is due to do a line in the fall of 2011, think Chanel, think vintage..… who wouldn’t want to own a piece!!
